Do any of you have a good model for a senior citizen emergency preparedness plan. We are a 48 home HOA and also has a senior congregate home on the plat which is not part of HOA.

Carol,

What kind of emergency preparedness are you talking about? Contact your local Red Cross for generic plans but be more specific. Every area of the country deals with different issues. You might need flood, wildfire or volcano, depending what you are dealing with.

My Florida property has a hurricane plan which the County sets up and the association fine tuned by purchasing a large generator to power the large clubhouse, especially a refrigerator for all of the meds that need to be kept cold for the 230 residents. (a 55+ community as well)

I'd recommend talking to your local fire department. They may help direct you into the right direction. Plus it would be helpful for them to have knowledge in responding to your area of what the issues are. There are several programs out there designed to help seniors.

We have a "Vile of life" program which gives seniors a BIG medicine bottle with essentials in it for emergencies. In it they have a sticker for placing on the door. It allows emergency responders to know how many occupents and animals may be inside. It has other vital information and stores in one's refrigerator. Don't know if this is a nationwide program or not. Our TV stations seem to be involved in this one mostly.

It's good to have an emergency plan for any HOA. We just had EF5 tornado's in our area. One tornado left a trail of 130 miles on the ground! So, it's good to have a good relationship with FEMA and other type organizations BEFORE disaster strikes. I'd recommend looking on their websites for information as well. I know I've taken some precautions personally...
