Hello...I was wondering if anyone has installed a security camera system at their HOA clubhouse? We are looking for a 4 camera/night vision system we can install ourselves that will capture video to hard drive. We do not have internet access at our clubhouse. We are looking for something we can buy on the Internet or off the shelf that has hardwired cameras. It would be nice to have vandal proof cameras as well since the over hang the cameras will be mounted to is about 8ft high and feel that kids would be able to damage the cameras if we did not protect them in some way. Looking to stay under $1000 if possible. Thanks Chris

You may be overlooking the most important part of installing these cameras...THE LAW! It sounds simple enough to install cameras and such. However, you need to make sure whatever those cameras capture is legal and can hold up in court.

There is the OTHER side of the coin to consider. Cameras may be considered and "Invasion of Privacy" to some people. They will get up in arms if you consider putting them in areas such as pool or bathroom areas...

My suggestion is to make sure to post a sign stating "Survelliance cameras in use" when you install the cameras. You also have to understand that cameras don't PREVENT the crime or vandalism. It just captures it on tape for proof in a case. Your still been robbed or damaged. It just increases the ability to find those responsible.

I tried to install cameras once. It didn't go over very well and many issues arised. I'd suggest a dry run with some fake cameras for about a month to see what issues your HOA members may have with it.

Fake camers reminds me of my own HOA in Florida. We installed some really good looking fake cameras as a trial to see if they were high enough in order to prevent vandalism and theft. They were gone in 3 weeks and this my friends was in a very high end area of Martin County. Jokes on us, they were not high enough.
