I have heard personal accounts of how effective the Office of Ombudsman has been in Florida; and yet, I also have heard that there is legislation being proposed to do away with this office. Is this just a token effort to appease those who are concerned about budgetary matters; or is there really great and widespread dissatisfaction with this office? As I said, from the actual accounts I have heard; it seems to work really well. I'd be grateful for some insight into this matter from those of you who live in Florida condos, in particular. Thanks.

Hi Ann:

If you go to the “home page” then click the “view all news” on page 2 there are a couple of articles regarding this issue. It is my understanding the legislation did not pass. I am not from Florida, but I do review various state statutes and try to keep abreast of all news pertaining to HOA’s. Some have thought that they were trying to do away with this office in order to add the ($6M +-) various associations have paid into this fund to the state’s general fund. I have also heard as you mentioned that it works well in allowing arbitration of matters to reduce court filings and costs. CO has a new office, however they do not at this time arbitrate issues within the HOA’s. Therefore, I also would be interested in comments from those who live in FL.
