when i purchased my home it was in need of repair, but in the last two years i got hurt on the job with no income I could no longer take care of my home and had to move in with my boyfriend. since than I have tried to reopen my home and now I have a lien on it with the water company I had a pipe burst within my home don't know how long the water was leaking but it had to be for a while, cause the bill is high I have tried to talk with then about a payment arrangement but they want to whole thing which I do not have. My credit is bad and I am working on that but here I am homeless with property that I can't live there without utilities if only the water company would be willing to allow me some type of payment arrangement and usage of the water I could move in and try to get a home improvement loan to bring my property up to code and livable for me and my son I would feel so much better I don't want to lose my home but it my happen. Can someone offer me so real help in what direction I should take? Thanks

You have multiple issues going on. Try talking to your town's public assistance office or similar. They may have some ideas for legal, loans, assistance, etc.

Zina - no agency or group is going to help you unless you can show that this home is affordable, according to your income.

If you can show that, go to the nearest largest Catholic Church and ask for the St. Vincent de Paul group. They MAY help you get the waterline fixed.

Or find an emergency food cupboard and ask for a referral.

Good luck.

Thought about it for a minute and got you a possible solution. It's ONLY a lien from the water department? They aren't foreclosing? That just means that you owe them money? Well keep owing them money...

Follow this logic... Ask them to KEEP the lien on your water bill BUT keep the water flowing. You promise to pay the NEW water bills timely or they can add that money onto the lien amount. If you can't pay the entire bill off but can still have water go for it. What will they be out? You agree for them to keep adding onto the bill owed until your finally able to finish the repairs to sell or live there.

You may be able to do a short-sale on the property. This won't eliminate your debt but it will stop the bleeding. Ask if there are assistance programs in the area to assist you in your needs.

I say if your in debt you may as swim in it until you can reach dry land or get a footing in the shallow end... Good luck!
