I posted the below a few days back. I asked the management company to meet with the HOA BOD over this in executive session. I was told they are not allowing it, and they have ignored my written email.

I obviously have to bring this to open session. It's my only time that I have the floor and am allowed to speak. How can I approach this without sounding attacking. I would like to mention that I offered to meet privately and was denied this.

Please advise.

I am a tad perturbed and really don't know if this is a battle I wish to fight. Our clubhouse has rules like most of if not all HOA's. There is one that is a simple no pets allowed in the clubhouse. Our clubhouse was renovated over the last couple of years. It's been upgraded. It looks great.

Rule #4 states, no pets allowed in the clubhouse.

Our board hosted a "Super Bowl" get together for the community. I didn't attent due to work, but I did walk by as I just got in from work. Our beautiful clubhouse had 4 dogs running around inside. Both sets belong to our HOA President and the Vice Prez. I was talking to someone who left and they said
'Oh the dogs were inside the whole game". I sat in our local spa across from the "party" and watched them open the door and let all four dogs run around the ground floor of our indoor complex why they cleaned the clubhouse. I did ask one homeowner did she know that dogs pets of anykind are not allowed in the room. She said, yes, I know. I don't want to talk about it. ( yes, we are not allowed to have our dogs without a leash either.. and a few homeonwer's have gotten letters about this. )

Exactly what kind of board does this and expects to be taken seriously?? OH ventarama..

Pick a battle or let this one lay?

Keep it short and to the point:

Ask the board WHAT the policy is about animals in the clubhouse.

Ask WHY animals were allowed in the clubhouse during that event.

Ask WHAT the board will do to offenders (official warning?)

Ask WHAT can be done so it does not happen again.

This is a valid concern. It needs to be dealt with. it's an indicator that rules are being ignored or there is the preception of "everybody but me" applies.

(I am not even going to get into a discussion about animals. I don't have any - once did. but I never acted the elistist, permissive way some people do with their animals today.)

I feel your pain! I have a similar story but it does not involve animals.

We live in a waterfront community, so we have a small beach. A very nice family was there and spread out when a board members wife allegedly approached this family and told them her husband was on the board and they had to move as they were bringing in their jet ski's and would be taking up the entire beach. The nice family moved but did not leave. The board members daughter (...also a board member) showed up and was using very foul language, at which point the family got up and left.

The vp and I confronted both the board members in question and it did not go well. Since then, we have implemented documents that indicate what is common sense, and that is that board members must act as a role model to the members of the community, after all, in most cases, they elected us to serve them.

I would be interested to see how other communities discipline their own.

WELL.. The current HOA BOD are people I use to serve with before i walked off the board about a year ago. ( I got one to many emails telling, not asking me to donate my free weekend day to pick up some wood for a project, imagine that. I got the assignment, because I am the one withe SUV. The secretary has a BMW SUV and lord forbid you put dirty wood in it. ) This board even when I was on it was self serving. The Sec would bring her dog in the pool area to say hi to everyone, it's also not allowed. But this with all the animals in the new clubhouse.

THe few homeowners there when I spoke to them, agree it's wrong and they don't wish to bring it up. Bring the squeeky wheel. Because of the boards most recent activity I feel I must say something, because even though I am just a home owner, I do own 1/70th of that room. Our HOA dues were raised last year and thousands spent on the room.. and the board allows thier pets in it. I suppose I can bring my cat to the next board meeting?? in a carrier to make point??

I'm totally on your side for this but ...

At best, the Board will give lip-service to your complaints. At the next big game, the dogs will be back in the clubhouse.

At worst, the Board will ignore your complaints, talk behind your back and look to cause you trouble.

Daniel,

I disagree. At Best they will actually listen to the issue and acknowledge that they messed up and it won't happen again.

There are people in the world that still do this: admit when they are wrong and try to correct it.

Tim
