Hello,

I am a pool service professional. I am starting to get into servicing community and HOA pools. I want to be more professional about my bids. I was wondering if anyone could share when you are looking for a new pool service company what you look for. Obviously price is in everyone's mind today. But sometimes I hear that the cheapest service didn't get the bid. Thanks

Luke,

Because our Association is self-governing and our officers are all volunteers, we look for a pool company that is proactive about problems, since we don't have the time or training to recognize potential problems ourselves.

It's a problem if we learn about issues only after the County has inspected the pool and we are about to open for the season. A pool company that we will keep from year-to-year will warn us about possible code issues and fix them before the County inspection.

A good pool company will tell us that the motors or the pumps are nearing their end-of-life, so that we can replace them before they break down and close the pool for days.

A good pool company helps with things that could be considered outside a narrow definition of their responsibility, such as advising on winterizing the pool house.

In short, we look for a partner rather than just a contractor, and we are willing to pay a little more to keep a company that has shown the ability to work with us.
