If your HOA uses RFID for vehicle entry, please note good and bad points. Is it worth the initial cost? What are subsequent costs to maintain and/or work on technical issues? Would you recommend it? Thank you.

Our transponder system works pretty good. Each car is issued a Toll-Tag style transponder that sticks to the windshield. The system was installed when the building was built, so I don't have any good info on those costs. Maintenance on the system hasn't been an issue.

Good:
-Don't have to fish around for a clicker or fob
-When it is raining, you don't get wet by rolling down your window to swipe a fob
-Transponders can be deactivated if lost
-System works pretty reliably

Bad:
-It is difficult to enforce a "no following in" rule... the gate will stay open as long as it senses an active tranponder
-The batteries in the transponders don't last long (3-4 months)

What do you see as the main differences between a transponder (RFID) and a typical "garage door opener" type entry system. I understand one is automatic as the RFID is activated and the gate opens and the garage door opener must have a button pushed to open the gate.

We have everything except barcode (i.e. callbox, keypad for 4 digit codes, RFID, keyswitch and clickers).

I don't see any advantage over a clicker except turning off a lost or stolen one. So if your looking to augment a system I'd pass. If your starting a new system then it may be included with other means.
