Axle Fees for commerical vehicles

Our association is having problems with large commerical vehicles damagaing our roads. We are a gated community with private roads and 24 hour security. The board is considering an axle fee for all commercial vehicles that entry our gate. I would like feed back on this subject. Are they other communities with axle fees, if so what are the fees per axle, entry? How is this administered.

Are you talking about garbage trucks, UPS and Fed-Ex and maybe the mail truck? Perhaps included should be a moving van? Are you prepaired to pick up your mail, packages, and take garbage down to the entry gate?

Your Board has GOT to be kidding! If the commercial trucks were using your streets as a short cut thru the neighborhood, maybe you could try something like that but you are gated and control the streets as is.

Would my plumbers truck be considered commercial? Repair people entering the community usually are driving commercial vehicles. See where I am going with this?

If this is a huge problem, you may want to consider just strengthening the roads during your next milling and paving. I suggest this because it appears that either there is a huge amount of moving trucks entering the area all the time or your roads were not built well enough.

My Association has 130 town homes and we require sections of the road repaired about every 5 years with a complete milling and paving every 20. I suspect that this is typical for our area. You may want to contact other Associations in your area to see how often they have repairs done to see if your property is along the average for your area.
