Our HOA management company is charging $42,200.00 per year for 275 households. This amount seems excessive. Is this about average here in SC?

It's difficult to compare management costs as every association is different, depending on the amount of amenities and common areas. I would suggest that if you are on the board to solicit bids from as many management companies are in the area. Specify in the bid request what you are looking for the management company to do. This way, you will be able to compare the bids and decide on which one is best (it might not be the lowest).

This is the best way to compare apples to apples.

My neighborhood of 50 homes pays roughly $17k to our mgmt company. The company's duties include paying bills, receiving dues from members of the association, and overseeing landscaping and pool contractors.
