I posted here a couple of weeks ago about our President and HOA Board allowing individuals to use our clubhouse for private activities. One was a home based business presentation, like Nonie Juice, another was an offer for a homeowner to use it free for a fund raising event, and now.. I found there is another homeowner who used it for a "reception" with private friends.. all free of charge. I know this as the actual person who held his reception told me he got the room free" how nice of the board!" as the original presentation of Nonie Juice.. I was informed by that individual that it was "freebie".

I have asked to use the clubhouse for a community event, potluck brunch, not once but twice and it's been stiffled by the board who insists my requested activity requires a board approval and board meetings are held every 3-4 months... I also requested to use the same facilities for a hospice training site, and it was denied!!

Saying that, the one thing that the above individuals have in common? They are all homosexual as is our HOA President... I can't help but feel that there is some prejudice going on. I am striaght married women who is very supportive of my neighbors lifestyle, as many of my close friends and family are also homosexual. I asked about this, and the president insists on me bringing it to open forum. From what I shared, it doens't look good, I don't wish to appear like I am a whiner, but really.. how does this look to others who are involved with HOA"s?

I guess I should also add.. if I or anyone else wanted to use this structure for a private party.. there is a signed agreement, deposit and a rental fee required.. none of which has been given or enforced the mentioned cases.. eith

the only thing you can do is to go to a board meeeting, request time to be on the agenda and ask for discussion on THEIR policy on use of the clubouse and get to the bottom of this.

I'd stay clear of mentioning anyone's sexuality or subject matter of the meetings held there. ALL clubhouse room useage should follow the same procedures.

I agree Michelle. I really don't want to bring this to the attn of the who membership, but I guess I will have to. My request to discuss this with the board have been squashed.. and all emails requesting the clubhouse has been ignored.. so here we go.

Ask a board member specifically about renting the space; I'm sure the board would approve the request and perhaps it doesn't need to wait for a meeting. If that member tells you they can't then simply ask the President or VP. Look at it this way, renting the clubhouse generates what for most would be much needed revenue for the HOA. At least that's the way I look at it. Argue the free treatment at an actual board meeting. Since they are few and far between make sure you address that at a meeting. For an immediate rental of the room ask a board member and they may be able to help you out.

Now to address your other comment, as a board president who also happens to be a homosexual I can tell you with 99% certainty that they are not discriminating against you for being a straight person; [we] DON'T do that. However if you are going to act homo-phobic especially not not including derogatory remarks/slurs either to their face or behind their backs, that will not help your cause.

thanks Micheal..
I would like to thank you for your input. I don't think your steroptyping of "we DON"T do that " is really fair. I am a huge supporter of our gay community, have close friends that I love that are gay, both men and women, my neice is gay as is a set of first cousins. I am definately not the homophobic. I noticed a trend, the gay neighbor who was given the clubhouse for "free" was talking to ME directly when he explained how the incident happend.

I am opposed to prop 8 here in Cali, have attended rallys and openly support gay equality. Your assessment was a bit off, but I do appreciate your response and I can see how I'd come off as what you described. XX
