I recent fell behind on my association dues . It is a six unit condo . Without my knowledge , there had been a vote to suspend association voting rights if fees are not up to date. Did I not have a right to take place in that vote???? Please help.
Thanks, Duke

Duke,

I will depend on what your covenants or bylaws say on delinquencies and how they are handled. Many documents give the Board the authority to suspend members rights to vote and use of any common property if they fail to pay dues. It is your obligation to pay those dues without being asked or policed. Contact the Board if you have circumstances that are making you fall behind but in the end, dues need to be paid with or without reason. In Florida, the State Statutes allow Boards to remove voting rights for this very reason so what your Board did is not unusual. Did you get notification that you were delinquent?

Depending on the wording of your CC&R's the suspension may have been automatic. There is also a good chance you received notification of the vote but didn't open it assuming it was another demand for payment. You do realize the position you have put your neighbors in by not paying??? One sixth of the income is not there, you need to contact the Board and make a payment agreement to get current.

Studies show that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions
