Out assn is split 7 to 7, and it looks like this is not going to change unless someone sells.

This is affecting our votes on all matters. What can we do?

Shirley - Quote from Dear Parlimentarian - "Only the presiding officer can break the tie vote if he or she hasn't already voted. If everyone has voted, and it is a tie, then the motion is lost. No one can vote twice."
Are you talking about your board or your membership? That is one reason there are usually odd numbers on boards. Harold

Harold, thanks for the reply. I'm talking about the association members, not the board. Next election if it's 7 to 7 what will we do??

Shirley - whatever are you voting on that requires a membership vote? Is it something that requires only a simple majority or a required percent to approve? That would affect how many have to be persuaded to change their vote. A tie vote usually begs for a compromise if that is possible. If it can only be either black or white and no one will change their vote, I don't know what you can do. Harold

in general, a tie vote should leave things as is (status quo). No changes should be made on a tie. a motion does not pass on a tie, only a majority.

The government officially uses a coin flip to decide tie votes, so that's a legal (and historically done) option.
