Our one year term will be up July 1. Time for another crew to step up if they will.

The only problem is since our neighborhood only consists of 23 homes, the ones that might step up are members that will break rules.

So, do I want to get voted back on the board so things are properly handled or let them duke it out themselves and not worry about all our futures?

Fran,

It's your call but because you have posted a few times with some interesting topics, I'll bet money that you want to stay on, even if you are not aware of it yet.

When I read some of the ridulous, sometimes stupid moves that some Boards take, I want to get on my horse and ride off to help fix things, or at least to offer some help and I think that you are nearly the same. If you do take the job on for another term, just know that you do the best that you can and don't blow your mind if it gets too much for you. Remember, you can always resign. With 23 homes, that gives you a really small pool of human resources so you might be "it" for this next year.

Fran,

Of course only you can make that call. From the posts you've made on this forum, IMO, you are the type of board member every assn craves for. But, please don't adopt a sense of being indispensible. You cannot make your decision based on the fact that you think only you can do the job right. You must make your decision because you want to serve. If you decide not to run and the place falls apart, that's not your problem. The members must take resp. for the people they elect. You can't serve forever!!!

Fran,
Of course Mary and Donna both speak while sitting of the horse of "been there and done that", and they are fearless to start with. It is a tough call for you to make but it keeps you out of the bars. (so to speak) I think this coming year when you are hard at it again you will start to enjoy the worth of what you do and have done. There is no small pleasure in walking around your place and noting, "I had a hand in that, and it turned out pretty damn good."
Not a bad thing.

remember too that the rules they break you will pay for...

i left a board after 4 years of service, we had $18,000 in the bank. When i returned, two years later, we had $450 in the bank, and nothing but bad decisions on spending to show for it.

So, you may want to stay, just to protect your investment.

Oh Brian .... that scares me ... I too was hoping our board would get the association in a good financial position, some structure in place, a few good contracts in place, and turn it over to the next board ... it kills me to think that much damage could be done so quickly.

Thanks again. The posts make it worth posting for advise I can't get on our own board or help of any for that matter. You are right. I should make that decision based on what I want to do. I will take this advise and log it into the ole memory bank. Thanks...

FranD - You can't stay on the Board forever. If the yahoos are gonna approve their own violations it's gonna happen eventually. Better to do so with someone like you in the community that can hold their feet to the fire right? Maybe not but I wouldn't let other people's stupidity keep me from enjoying the freedom of being off the Board.
